Meet Mrs. P!
A few months ago I met Mrs. P…of course…on twitter! We have tweeted a few times, shared links, etc. My kids really enjoy the Mrs. P YouTube songs as well.
The grand prize winners of the Nationwide Kids’ Writing Contest will be announced on January 15th. You can read more about the contest in the Mrs. P press release.
This was the first annual contest, as the site just launched in November of 2008. The contest was held in September of 2009. They received entries from 23 States and had two age categories: 4 to 8 and 9 – 13.
Some of the factors considered by the judges included:
- Originality
- Creativity
- Compelling narrative
- Humor
- Development of a theme or point of view
Other factors included:
- What did the story sound like when read out loud by Mrs. P?
- Did the story “stick” with the reader after he/she had gone home?
- Did the story move others, emotionally?
- Did it make the readers laugh or give insight into another person’s life?
One of Mrs. P’s goals is to encourage kids to use their imaginations.
Mrs. P’s representative shares:
“Hosting a national writing contest and giving kids the chance for their stories to be read by the best and most famous writers around (our celebrity judges) seemed like the perfect way to do this.”
Stay tuned…grand prize winners are announced on January 15th, 2010!
