Our family recently received a copy of Munchkin Math Counting Money – for ages 3-9.
I signed up for this blog tour through *Mom Central so that our we could use the DVD with our 3-year-old. I always jump on the blog tours that offer an educational item

The first time through the DVD our daughter lost interest quickly. However, after a few runs she began to memorize the rhymes. Those of us who have worked with kids, or in education, know that rhymes and songs are one of the best ways to teach. The human brain is programmed to respond to music and singing (no wonder music sales remain high no matter what the economy is doing, eh?).
I also appreciated the fact that the DVD was simple and clean. The primary colors used make it easy for a child to focus on the lessons being taught. There are no dancing animals jumping around the screen, distracting from the concepts, etc.
We know from research that not all children will fall into a “generalized age category” when it comes to learning. Some children learn concepts much earlier than others and some kiddos take a bit longer to grasp the lessons. I assume that is why the age recommendation on this DVD ranges from 3-9.
When buying, simply use your judgment, being aware of your own child’s level of learning. If your child is showing an interest in counting, or in sorting coins, the time is right!
