When *Mom Central sent out a note about blogging for Hickory Farms I couldn’t hit “Fill out this form to sign up” fast enough.
I grew up eating Hickory Farms items. My family was not wealthy – by any means. Each year at Christmas time my mother would splurge and buy numerous Hickory Farm items for our family of six. My mother would divvy out the goods, little by little, over a 3-4 week period of time. If we had company over, we shared.
We were not a mall shopping family but again, at Christmas time we hit the mall and walked through the Hickory Farms shop sampling all of the goodies before buying our selection.
Side note:
Do they still do that? I have not been to a mall in years.
Back again:
A few months ago I noticed that Walmart now sells Hickory Farms beef sticks. I grabbed one to bring home. My children immediately became ADDICTED. Every time we head to the grocery store now our oldest son says: “You ARE getting a beef stick today, right?” Yes, yes, yes. Thanks goodness they are under $6 at Walmart because we buy one weekly. LOL.
When my box of Hickory Farms items arrived for review my kids went nuttso. “For us? Can we eat it? Please!!!??” I pulled aside one beef stick to ship to my sister’s family with their gifts – can’t help it. My parents always taught us to share what food we have so it’s like second nature to me now. Get free food? Must share.
Our box contained 2 types of mustard. A spicy one (that is for my hubby; I am a whimp when it comes to spicy food) and a cranberry one. I was ALL over that cranberry one on Thanksgiving Day.
Beef sticks, Ham stick, mustards, cheese ball, spreads, crackers and candies.
It took me back to my own childhood and reminded me of something I want to be sure to include in the childhood of my own kids.
Thanks, Hickory Farms!! For the free food but also – for the memories.
