While visiting my family in Oregon a while back I noticed that my sister had some very nice baby bottles. High end, glass bottles, from which her son drank. I picked one up to study it, thinking how nice it would have been to know about these before I had purchased a ton of plastic bottles years ago (after my mini human #2 had moved from breastfeeding to organic formula). I loved the words “Born free” written on the glass, too. Babies should be born free – free, indeed, to be loved and kept safe. So yep – I was sold.
After returning from Oregon I found an email in my in-box. Sprout Baby, the makers of these VERY bottles, was asking me to review them
Um. YES.
I received one larger bottle and one smaller bottle for review. I passed the smaller bottle on to a teen mother in town – to bless her with a little gift and to get her feedback after use. When she texted (yes, texted) her response it was something along the lines of, “I loved it. The baby loved it. It’s great!” LOL.
Gotta love those teens
Here is my take:
The plastic bottles I’ve had for so long are not safe according to research. I didn’t know that when I used them on my own mini humans. But YOU have a chance to make a different choice. A better choice. One of the things that annoyed me about the plastic bottles we used over the years is that the markings wore off. The ounce marks (2 oz, 4 oz, etc) rubbed off after many washes – we can hardly see them now.
Our youngest is just about done using bottles. He nursed for 5 months then promptly went to solids and a sippy cup (by his own choice – believe me), with a bottle used in the mix each day. When I first gave him the Sprout Baby bottle a few weeks ago his face scrunched up and he looked at me with inquisitive eyes. He shifted the bottle around in his hands and then hit the bottle against the floor – testing the difference between the glass and the plastic. He nodded his head in approval and then carried the bottle around for a good ten minutes before drinking. Like he just knew it was something special. LOL.

Mini humans — love that. I’ve decided to use glass bottles for my little one. It’s funny how reverting to former generations practices have proved to be safer!
