I was quite excited when Michele recently contacted me about some PR work. I always look over every site before agreeing to sign them (I have turned a few down based on their non ‘family friendly’ concepts, etc). I immediately loved the SafetyTat site and their concepts. I jumped to sign them
I’m currently working to get them listed on a site or two, promoting their affiliate program. If you have a site that would be a good fit for SafetyTat, contact Michele to get the ball rolling. If you don’t mind, please mention Mommy Perks so she knows who sent ya
This product is great for any parent or grandparent but also for schools – just slap a tat on each kiddo when going on field trips!! Perfect.

1. Tell us about Safety Tat
SafetyTat is a children’s temporary ID tattoo customized with a parent’s mobile phone number. So in case parent and child are accidentally separated, a helpful adult can help reunite them quickly. SafetyTats are offered two ways: “Original” style: traditional temporary tattoos customized for each customer on our website and “Quick Stick Write-on!”: a peel-and-stick temporary ID tattoo on which parents write in their mobile phone number or emergency data.
2. Why did you start this business?
Out of necessity. We have three children very close in age. When visiting a crowded amusement park with them one weekend, I nearly panicked at the crowd of people and was fearful we would become separated. I wrote my mobile number on each of the kid’s arms and explained to them that this was what they should show another Mommy should they lose sight of my husband or me. We kept a close eye on them throughout the day, but the phone number provided us peace of mind. Several parents stopped us that day to compliment the idea of “arming” our kids with our cell number. The numbers smeared and had to be rewritten several times that day from swimming and sweating. I knew there had to be a solution.
A “SafetyTat” temporary tattoo fit all the criteria: waterproof, durable, not easily removed… and kids loved it.
3. You’ve had a lot of media coverage already. How did you swing that?
We have done several small-scale PR campaigns which have resulted in a lot of interest in our safety tattoos. Since we are a start-up company, we have very limited advertising budgets. Mostly word of mouth — from reviewers, bloggers, moms and our customers — has been amazing and has led us to several media coverage opportunities.
4. With the holidays coming, what tips can you offer parents for keeping their kids safe?
Holiday time is full of occasions where SafetyTat child ID tattoos can be instrumental in keeping your kids safe! SafetyTat is the simple, perfect companion…Just in case!
• shopping malls
• school field trips
• play dates or drop-off parties
• airports
• stadiums
• movies and theaters
Here are a few tips to help you be a better “finder” for lost children:
- be observant. Children wandering by themselves without adult supervision are oftentimes mistaken as “just waiting for someone”
- it never hurts to ask. A simple, “Are you ok?” could be just the cue a child needs to hear to ask for help.
- if you do find a lost child, commit to him or her. And stay with him until reunited with his parents or safely in the hands of security or law enforcement
- last, remember not to offer food to a lost child. Water is ok, but you never know what food allergies the child may have
Holidays and Allergies:
Please use extra caution this holiday, especially for those children with food allergies.
Eight foods — cow’s milk, egg, peanut, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, soybean and wheat — account for 90 percent of all food allergies. Many of those are ingredients are found in Holiday Treats!
From Kids With Food Allergies (KFA): Have a cookie exchange with other food allergy families or friends that you trust; For buffets away from home, plan on an early visit, and then leave when it’s time for people to wander with plates of food.
5. What drew you to the Mommy Perks site?
I originally learned about Mommy Perks on Twitter and decided to check out the site and business concept. Mommy Perks is such a great fit for SafetyTat to help us spread the word about our helpful child safety products, and help us navigate PR, social media and networking. That being said, it was ultimately the enthusiasm, positive attitude and expertise of Shara that drew us to Mommy Perks!

How did your company start and WHY?
The why is simple - when I had first begun the business, I was a single mom and I wanted hours that are more flexible so I could be home when I needed or wanted to. I actually started working in this industry when I became pregnant. I worked from my house conducting interviews. After my daughter was born, I continued working at home conducting research. As my daughter grew older, it became more difficult to work from home so I started working part time for a research company located in an area mall. After my separation and divorce, I went to work full time. Each day I loved the industry more and more. The only issue I had was that working full time gave me no flexibility with the things I wanted to do at home and with my daughter. Being a single mom I also needed more job security than I was given.
I was lucky enough to have someone come through my office and see my talents , and, having worked with me, also become willing to invest in me. I also wanted to prove to myself that I could do this. It was very important to my self-esteem and important to show my children that with hard work and a little luck, you can accomplish big things.
What words of advice can you offer to other moms in business?
Having loving children helps a great deal. You should also have a strong support system. In my case, it was my husband who I married just 10 months after I started my business. He took care of most of the home chores so that I could concentrate on running and expanding my business.
Are you giving anything away today? If so, what is it?
