Get to know Abbey:
1. What is your business?
2. Why did you start up your business?
Living My MoMent was started in April 2009. I had been a SAHM for over a year and felt that I needed to contribute financially to our family. For awhile I had been researching ways to make money and still be able to work at home, but none of those options seemed quite right to me. I didn’t know much about blogging but knew that I had a knack for writing and wanted to explore my options. With the economy as bad as it is, the thought of starting up my own business was not feasible for us at that moment, but how great would it be if I could support other moms who do have their own companies during these hard times. That’s when I am came up with Living My MoMent. The name has two meanings; obviously the first one is living in the moment and not focusing too much on what the future will hold. Living your life day to day and cherishing the moments you have with your children right now. The other meaning is how important it is to stress the MoM part of the word MoMent because that is what the site is all about; helping other MoMs out and being their support system.
The site is geared mainly towards MoMs and our most popular advertising option is the FREE one for MoMbusinesses and MoMblogs. The site features your logo, a write up about your company and products and mentions of special promotions or other networking sites you belong to. The website also provides MoMgiveaways, MoMreviews (of products), a listing of MoMblogs and other great MoMadvertising Options. I also blog about my life as a mom to a rambunctious toddler and being pregnant with our second. It’s just my daily life and I like to let people in on what’s going on.
3. Who is your market/demographic?
Our market is moms with children of all ages but we are for anyone: MoMs or Dads and anyone who wants to support other businesses.
4. How do you help mom/small businesses?
We give them the opportunity to advertise their business for free so they are able to get more exposure without having to worry about paying for marketing for their business especially during this hard economic time that our country is having. If they have a product that they want reviewed or want to give away, we can provide that service for them. And if they are doing well, we also provide MoMfeature (an upgrade to our Free Service) and Paid Button/Logo advertising so they can gain the maximum exposure we can give them through all outlets (like Facebook and Twitter)
5. Do you only feature MOM businesses or do you feature DADS as well? Or anyone who sells to families/kids?
Presently, I only feature MoM businesses, but that could be because I have not had much contact with Dad businesses. I would not be opposed to featuring Family businesses or Dad businesses. Another reason that I just have MoM businesses at this time is because that was the sole focus of the website when I started, but as it has grown, I have come to realize that all parents need help marketing their businesses. The products that they sell do not necessarily have to be for families/kids. The company just has to be owned by a MoM (or at some point a Dad).
6. How can others help YOU?
I would love for to people mention my site to other people they know to help get the word out like on social networks, message boards or forums they are part of to let them know that there we are out there to support what they are passionate about. It would also be great to have people link their site to mine through a button ad or website link.
7. Do you have any long-term goals for the site…something that will come later on, perhaps?
I just want the site to keep growing so that small businesses have a Free Source of Advertising for their company and possibly one day have a discussion board or forum for people to be able to share with others what they do, be able to share their stories, their sales, and anything else that is going on with their business world that they would like people to know. It would be great if it could be another social networking site but for small businesses and such. But that is something that is just an idea but hopefully will come to fruition someday.
