Why do you think it's important for community members to support small business?
I feel it is important for people to support small business because I feel small business is the life of a community. All I have to do in my mind is compare my personal experience from working with a small business to working with a business that is a chain or really large. The personal connection becomes lost. Small business is how America is built and as the economy is struggling it is important to go back to the small business to keep them strong and growing in our communities. For example – working with Mommy Perks is an experience I would take any day of the week, what is better than knowing how hard Mommy Perks is working for small business and actually cares about our success.

I have had a love of crafts my entire life. Creativity is a passion and an outlet for me. I can’t imagine life without a creative outlet and I have been blessed to have two little boys who have taken on my love of crafts and who have begun to develop their own creative passions.
Crafting is an important part of a child’s healthy development. By encouraging your kid’s creativity you are helping to build a wide range of life skills including: social development, fine motor and visual spatial development, skills in planning and completion of tasks, concentration, imagination, as well as a feeling of success and self worth!

Why do you think it's important for community members to support small business?
With so many choices of where to shop and what to buy this year, it is important to consider why shopping from a small business is a great option!
- Small business owners take a lot of pride in their companies and the workmanship that goes into their products. This attention to detail translates into higher quality products for the consumer.
- Many small business owners manufacture their products in the USA with American made materials. This helps boost our economy by keeping jobs local.
- If you want great customer service, shop small businesses! Chances are, if you have an issue with an order or products you will get a live person on the phone who will be willing to do whatever it takes to make the situation right and to ultimately keep you, the customer, satisfied.
- Small business owners put their heart and soul into their companies. Many sacrifice time with their families, take little or no vacation time, and give everything they have to make their business successful. Hard work and dedication are what this country was built on and it is important to support companies who keep this principal alive.
When planning your holiday shopping this year please keep in mind the many options of high quality products and services provided by small business owners. We thank you for your support!

My goal is to provide you with a shopping place that is all about boys! From the start my intention was to offer an enjoyable experience through an easy to use website, a large and varied selection of quality boys clothing and accessories.

Why do you think it's important for community members to support small business?
People who own and operate their own business take "pride" in their work. Their quality and efficiency is often much higher. In many cases small businesses are known for providing their customers personalized and customized, high-quality products and services. Knowing these facts allow me to ask the following:
If you could purchase a higher-quality product from a small business for $15, why would you go to the mall and purchase a lower-quality version for $60? There are many small businesses that design crafts that could never be purchased in a store. These crafts show human pride and quality that could never be mass produced.
So why would you?

I (Brandy) am a chemical engineer with prior industrial formulations experience. I may be a chemical engineer, but most of my work experience is in the field of chemistry (organic synthesis, analytical chemistry, biochemistry) – I have worked at the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta and at the Cancer Research Institute in Tempe, AZ. At one point, I thought I wanted a PhD in organic synthesis, so I have also taken a significant number of graduate level courses in chemistry. My husband, Justin, holds a PhD in medicinal chemistry and organic synthesis.
With such a solid scientific foundation, we understand the ingredients that are being used in the products – both how they are made and how they work. We don’t rely on an outside expert to create the formula, we make the formulas ourselves, and we are the experts. Each formula is created on the basis of extensive literature research for each and every ingredient used, and each ingredient serves a crucial purpose in the product.

Why do you think it's important for community members to support small business?
I don't know about you, but there's nothing I hate more than generic. Small businesses are what make a region unique... I mean, imagine Napa Valley without wineries or Colorado without microbrews or Savannah with only chain restaurants or Aspen with only Sephora and no spa boutiques. Now, imagine the coolest town or city that you like to shop in (Austin, Savannah, Carmel) with only a Wal-Mart... you get the idea. Small business and one of a kind shops are a huge part of what makes the great towns great. So, whether you're supporting an online small business this holiday season or buying from that eclectic brick-and-mortar store you love (and I sincerely hope you're doing both), you are helping to keep retail items available to you unique - many small businesses actually make their own inventory or they purchase from small businesses that make their own. So, when you're looking for value gifts this season, remember, nothing says value like something unique and one-of-a-kind (seriously, try it, you'll be amazed at the response - authentic joy). Step out there and discover something new, fall in love with a small business!

After being laid off from a great job in Advertising of over 8 years, I loved staying home with our son, but we needed my income to pay off our mountain of debt. I didn't have any sales experience, but when I heard our National Director in Training speak at a fun, casual Opportunity Event, I said, "Wow, what could it hurt? I can do this!" Plus, I HAD to have that jewerly!
Now, as I grow my team and help other women start their own successful business, I'm making amazing friends AND seeing my income grow! Suddenly, my 'fun job' is starting to pay MORE than my 'real job' did. I want to help you do it too, so contact me to learn all about it. I couldn't imagine my life like this before and now I can't imagine my life any different now.

Crafty Baby was founded in 1998 by a love of sewing and a need for practical & durable children and baby products. Jill, owner and creator, discovered during her pregnancy with her first child that there was a lack of unique, yet classic, fabric crafted items for young children in her local stores. As a longtime seamstress and crafter, Jill decided to do something about this dilemma, and Crafty Baby was "born." Jill credits her attention to detail and quality to her Nana K who first inspired within her a love of sewing at the early age of 4. Jill's designs are one-of-a-kind and crafted specifically to ensure durability against washing and active little ones. Fabrics are carefully selected for the highest level of quality and comfort. Crafty Baby has become a family affair, with Jill's children helping to pick out fabrics and field test products. Crafty Baby is atrue, home-based, family company. We value our customers and are inspired by the children and families we meet and know.

Why do you think it's important for community members to support small business?
It’s important to support small business for a variety of reasons. Small business owners are entrenched in every aspect of their companies and bring an amazing passion to their respective industries. They take the time to listen to the customer and have a pulse on the communities they service. When we support a small business, we are directly supporting American families and our economy. We are showing our children that relationships and community are more important than having a lot of stuff.

I LOVE LIFE! You will RARELY find me feeling sorry for myself as I am living a beautiful life with so many blessings! I live a life of chaos. I’m unorganized and lose things all of the time! I have 5 children, an amazing husband, 2 dogs and a crazy cat. I work full-time and own my own business. My business is growing and I’m enjoying all of the amazing new friends I’ve made and the people I’ve helped reach their goals. My youngest was diagnosed with Epilepsy at age 4 so since then we’ve been strong advocates of Epilepsy Foundation Minnesota. Epilepsy changed our lives forever. So little is know about the cause and there is no cure. A seizure disorder comes with a long list of issues for a child that make an already challenging world that much more difficult. When you are feeling weak or beat down by the daily challenges you remind yourself how blessed you really are and you know you can take whatever life brings.

Why do you think it's important for community members to support small business?
Small businesses tend to be owned and operated by people who live in the community and therefore they tend to be able to give back and support kids & local events in the community. If the community supports its local business, the local business can support the community! As an example, IronKids is a Brand of Life Science Nutritionals, and for the past two years Life Science Nutritionals have donated bags, water bottles and vitamins to all children participating in the Moon & June road race here in Burlington. We have also sponsored two local hockey teams and donated vitamins to numerous auctions, fundraisers, entrepreneur nights and children in need. Since we are a family run company – my husband Stuart started the company 5 years ago, I do all the social media marketing to Moms & our 3 children are the main product taste testers before anything goes to store shelves!! – we love providing families with a healthier alternative to vitamins on the store shelves today. We are committed to kids health, to making all natural products and connecting with our customers. We happily promote those businesses around us that also cater to children’s health & enhancing family life - its one way we can all win!

Why do you think it's important for community members to support small business?
I truly believe that small businesses drive our economy from the ground up. While it is true the large chain stores can offer variety and low prices, they do not have a vested interest in you personally. I think that is what separates small business owners from their larger competition. We value each and every one of our customers. Much of our success is built on word of mouth advertising, so we want you to enjoy your shopping experience and tell others about our business. In supporting each other, we are committing to make a difference in the lives of someone else who understands the challenges and rewards of owning a small business.

I am the mother of beautiful children. I live in my home state, but after so much time away, I'm still trying to make it seem like home. I have a fantastic and supportive husband, James. I do not call him Captain. I like having a varied workload. Every day needs to be different! I have 6 different email address and actually use them all often. I love reading and music, and work to make sure my children have good exposure to both. I definitely work from home. I run three businesses from our family room (Great Books for Children, Moore Local Services and DFW Mommy Bag Marketing), as well as sell local marketing packages for Metroplex Baby and The DFW Family Expo and nationally for Mommy Bag Marketing.

It is an enthralling tale about King Arthur, and there are vivid illustrations on almost every page (click on "view more images of this product" under the picture on url below to see sample pages). It would also be a great family read, or a chapter-before-bed book.
Why do you think it's important for community members to support small business?
There are several reasons others should support small business. First, the money you spend with a small business is flowing back into our local economies, at a rate that is about 25% higher on average than the money you spend at the big box stores. Second, small business products (especially those that are handmade) tend to be of much higher quality than what is mass produced for the least possible cost. Because of that, I come to my final reason you should support small business - it reinforces the values most of us are trying to instill in our children. Work hard, do quality work, the amount of "stuff" you have is not important, spend your money wisely, family is important (Small businesses tend to be family affairs), treat others like you'd want to be treated (Small businesses seem to pay a living wage more often than mass producers)... I could go on and on.

Pigtail Pals was created by Melissa Wardy, a stay-at-home mom who wants better options for her pre-school daughter when it comes to clothes. Melissa wants role models for her daughter that exemplified courage, intelligence, and independence.
She doesn't want to confine her little girl to the pink and purple world being marketed to her. When Melissa couldn't find what she wanted, Pigtail Pals was born. Pigtail Pals tries to get away from the ubiquitous pink and purple princess-diva-drama queen trend. It is our intention to show girls that they may be bold, adventurous and heroic just like the boys!

Why do you think it's important for community members to support small business?
I think it's important for community members to support small businesses for several reasons. First: small businesses are owned by your very own community members: buy from your own. Second: small businesses can connect on a more personal level with community members: get to know who you're buying from. And third: the community member has a responsibility to help keep their own community thriving: small businesses do just that.

Why do you think it's important for community members to support small business?
I think choosing to support small businesses is important because of many different reasons!
- It builds strong relationships and enriches the whole community where it matters
- It creates more jobs/opportunities (in our case, we are happy and proud to be able to support other moms who wish to stay at home with their children and also have the means to provide for them)
- It means more choices and more diversity in unique services and products
- It means more focus on quality products and customer service - many independent businesses go above and beyond to provide that extra little something that makes a whole world of a difference.
All in all, I believe that when we support small businesses, our entire community and economy benefits. Independent owned businesses are friends, family and neighbours ~ If we support them, they will support you right back. ;)

She then shared her picture books with neighborhood kids who tried and tested Find Me Book to help make it an entertaining, valuable gift.

Why do you think it's important for community members to support small business?
At Gagagougou, we believe in supporting small businesses is critical for our economy. By helping circulate money through family owned businesses, we are putting money back into the pockets of those who spend. Our community is our friends and families and people we can see and interact with. It is important to have this personal connection.
Small business owners are hard working and will do anything to provide a good personal service to satisfy their customers. For work-at-home-moms (WAHM), like many of us on this Holiday Guide, it is often times very hard to juggle between work and family. We work when everyone is sleeping, we eat when our kids allow us, and we strive to provide the best to our family and our customers. So make sure you come and support us!
